Learn to Play Roulette
Description and Objective
Roulette is one of the oldest and most popular casino games in the world. It is also one of the simplest to play. The game of American Roulette consists of a wheel with 38 stops, and a ball that can land with equal chance in any of those stops. Players make wagers by placing chips in the betting areas of the Roulette table. After all bets are placed, the ball is spun and eventually lands on a number. Wagers placed on the winning number or on groups that include the winning number are paid a multiple of the bet. The house collects all other wagers.

Roulette's Amazing History
When many people think of roulette, they imagine glamorous high rollers in fancy casinos. While this imagery is certainly perpetuated by many movies with casino scenes, it may also have something to do with the rich history of the game. The traditional, European form of the game experienced much of its development at the elite casinos of Monte Carlo during the 19th century. Roulette in its current form first originated around the 17th century when Blaise Pascal developed a primitive form of the game that would become roulette. It is believed that the modern roulette wheel was created from a combination of the Italian games of Hoca and Biribi and the English games of Roly-Poly, Ace of Hearts, E.C., and Reiner. By 1796, Parisians were playing a game that modern gamblers would recognize as roulette. By the 19th century, the game quickly spread all over Europe and the United States, where it became an extremely popular casino game. In the 1860s, the gambling hotspot of Monte Carlo was established, where the roulette wheel quickly became the popular elite game. Interestingly, it was the establishment of the casino in Monte Carlo that really popularized the roulette wheel with a single zero, which spread just about everywhere but the United States, where the double zero remained the dominant set up.
